# Sandboarding at Atlantis Dunes

North of Cape Town, Atlantis Dunes rolls away in ridges of white sand. Climb to the top and look out across the reserve before you choose your slope. You can stand on a sandboard or take the descent seated on a bumboard.

## A different side of Cape Town

The dunes lie within Witzands Aquifer Nature Reserve. Once you reach the sand, the city gives way to pale ridges and an open horizon. The ride down is a rush; the walk back up lets you see the landscape from another angle. It is worth leaving time to enjoy both.

The meeting point is the main entrance at **0 Dassenberg Drive, Atlantis, Cape Town, 7349**. Check your booking confirmation before you leave and allow time for the journey north of central Cape Town.

## From the gate to the first run

Arrive **30 minutes before** your scheduled start. After check-in and the safety briefing, an instructor helps you get ready for the slopes. Choose a stand-up board if you want to find your balance on your feet, or a bumboard if a seated ride sounds more like your speed.

Bring your original valid passport or South African ID for the reserve indemnity form. You will also pay a separate **R96 sandboarding permit per person** on arrival; the reserve accepts cashless payment. See the [price and permit guide](/sandboarding-cape-town-prices/) if you are planning your total.

## Find your way down

The instructor shows you how to start. Then the dune does the rest: a short, lively descent followed by a climb through soft sand to try again. Take the climb at your own pace. There is no need to hurry the view from the top.

The 90-minute session is shared with other riders. If you have never been on a board before, the [beginner's guide](/sandboarding-for-beginners-cape-town/) is a good place to start.

## Come ready for the sand

Bring sunglasses and sunscreen, and wear clothes you can move in. You will walk up loose sand between runs. The experience is unsuitable for wheelchair users or people with back problems. Drones, alcohol and drugs are not allowed. Our [what-to-wear guide](/what-to-wear-sandboarding-cape-town/) covers the rest.

## See the dunes for yourself

That first look down the slope is part of the fun. Choose a date, make your way to Atlantis and see the white dunes from the top.
